The Grammy-winning artist recalled that his classmates would tell him with conviction that he was gay.
"I was in a boarding school with a bunch of quite hardcore kids who were also gone for their thing and, for a few years, they would very much say, 'You’re definitely gay,' in quite a full-on manner, quite aggressively telling me that and it was weird for me for a few years," Martin said.
Martin added when he was younger he didn't know if he was gay and thought that even if he was, he thought it was wrong.
"I don't know and even if I am, I can't be because it's wrong," Martin said he thought at the time, adding he started to worry about being gay.
He said there came a time where he stopped worrying about being gay, which he attributed to gaining more exposure to the world and recognizing that some of his heroes are gay.
"About 15 and a half, I don't know what happened, I was like, 'Yeah, so what?' and then it all just stopped overnight.

Chris Martin reflects on being 'very homophobic' and 'worried he was gay' during school
It's no secret that some examples of homophobia stem from insecurities and fear, but it's not often we hear people reflect on it honestly.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has opened up about the "brutal" anxiety and fear he grappled with while attending boarding school - admitting that he held homophobic beliefs born from deep insecurity.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, the 42-year-old father of two explained that he went through "a bit of a rough time" during puberty, including "some stuff with religion and sexuality and everything".
"When I went to boarding school, I walked a bit funny and I bounced a bit and I was also very homophobic because I was like, 'If I’m gay, I’m completely f**ked for eternity' and I was a kid discovering sexuality," he said. "[I thought,] 'Maybe I’m gay, maybe I’m this, maybe I’m that, I can’t be this.'"
The singer continued: "I was terrified and then I walked a bit funny and I was in a boarding school with a bunch of quite hardcore kids who were also gone for their thing and, for a few years, they would very much say, 'You’re definitely gay,' in quite a full-on manner, quite aggressively telling me that and it was weird for me for a few years."
Martin, who spoke out in support of same-sex marriage in Australia during the 2017 postal survey, recalled feeling a "terrible turmoil" at the time.
"I don't know [if I'm gay] and even if I am, I can't be because it's wrong… If I am, I can't be,'" he said.
"I start[ed] to worry about [being gay] for sure.
So why was everyone trying to find out if Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland abd Will Champion were gay?
Maybe it had something to do with this colourful display…
Or this…
The rainbow is obviously an iconic symbol of gay pride, and actually, it was a pretty bold statement for Coldplay to make considering the big opposition to gay marriage there has been in America.
Not only that, the NFL has historically not been too warm to homosexual players coming out.
The first openly gay football star, Michael Sam, only joined the league in 2014, when he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the NFL draft.
So while the world focused mainly on Beyonce’s political Formation of Black Panthers, championing the Black Lives Matter cause and Black History Month, let’s not forget the positive message of free love Coldplay celebrated too.

Chris Martin reveals childhood struggle with discovering himself: 'I was terrified' of being gay
Coldplay's Chris Martin is being frank about his childhood struggles.
In an interview with Rolling Stone published on Tuesday, Martin shared he went through a rough time as a teen because he didn't fit in with the boys at his boarding school.
"I don't know, I was just going through some stuff with religion and sexuality and everything … like most kids at that age," Coldplay's frontman said.
In explaining his relationship with religion, Martin revealed he struggled with his sexuality for a bit when he was younger.
"When I went to boarding school, I walked a bit funny and I bounced a bit and I was also very homophobic because I was like, 'If I’m gay, I’m completely (expletive) for eternity,' and I was a kid like discovering sexuality," Martin said.
"So what that did was ease a big pressure and then made me question, like 'Hey maybe some of this stuff that I’m learning about God and everything' … I'm not sure if I subscribe to all of this particular religion."
Martin was married to Gwyneth Paltrow for 10 years before the two divorced in 2016. Whatever they are, it doesn’t really matter," he said. "So what that did was ease a big pressure and then made me question, 'Hey maybe some of this stuff that I’m learning about God and everything - I'm not sure if I subscribe to all of this particular religion.'"
Eventually, though, Martin found clarity around his religious beliefs.
"… So for a few years, that was a bit wobbly and then eventually I just was like, 'OK, I think I have my own relationship with what I think God is and it's not really any one religion for me," he said.
