Some police departments have officers trained to handle LGBTQ+ cases with sensitivity.
If you’re determined not to involve the police:
- Reach out to LGBTQ+-friendly organizations.
Connect with local LGBTQ+ centers, hotlines, or shelters that specialize in supporting individuals facing violence: National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP), The Trevor Project, or Trans Lifeline - Create a safety plan.
Develop a plan that includes trusted contacts, emergency funds, and a safe place to go if needed. - Document the abuse.
Keep records of incidents, including dates, times, and descriptions, which can be useful if you decide to take action later.NCAVP.
