Traps arent gay

Thoughts like this stem from derogatory phrases such as “trap,” as well as from insecurity.

traps arent gay

The second part of the phrase, “gay,” also contributes to transgender erasure. (But let's not take him at his word, he made stuff he said he woldn't do some times before)

As for the part of the Knigths gender and dressing code, I think that if they had a gender rule (I'm not sure if they do) it wouldn't be out of place to Ferris be an exeption, since she is with Crush who have power and influence to make it.

So, in other words, it is pretty easy to say what Ferris is supossed to be, but translation and adaptation don't necesary capture it creating this strange state in where depending on how you consume the series you wouldn't ever know.

.

It can start from calling out those who use toxic phrases like “traps are gay,” for phrases like this only serve to perpetuate violence and transphobia.

I never heard of such circles, but in the communities I'm in trans people don't tend to like it because times trans characters get called traps in wich case it can means a) That person is calling trans people decivious, because that is what IRL traps are or B) That person is conflating crossdressers and trans people.

Exemples of characters that are trans and I see many people calling traps are Luka Urushibara (Literally changed sex, only came back to save a life) Liliy Hosikawa and Ferris Argyle (Tho you would need to read the source material to know)

Aren't the Knights in Re:Zero all or at least mostly male though?

As it is usually directed at trans women, it implies that it is deceptive to express a gender identity that doesn’t conform to the cisgender status quo, and that trans women are predatory. It indicates that men who use the phrase feel that their masculinity and heterosexuality is threatened by their attraction to trans women.

According to user coleopterist on the website Stack Exchange, the first trap character comes from Osamu Tezuka's 1949 manga, Metropolis features the first male-to-female "trap" character.

On September 8th, 2007, Urban Dictionary user Michaels V posted a definition of "trap" (shown below).

A man who dresses like a woman and is somewhat feminine in appearance.

From what i can see, characters like him could easily be classified as non-binary just as easily, or simply classified by their biological sex

I kinda of regret even bringing it up because there is a LOOOT of stuff that can be said about Ferris, most of it is related to QNAs and this one ligth Novel focused on the character

https://myanimelist.net/manga/95243/Re_Zero_kara_Hajimeru_Isekai_Seikatsu_Ex

I will try and keep things short: In that one novel the third person onisciente narrator says that Ferris should had be born a girl, it is show that she has uneasiness with male secondary phisical caracterists, did evade male puberty by praying very hard, changed her name from Felix to Ferris, and use only the feminine variety of pronouns - wich is consistent trough re zero in Japan, but was translated as masculine pronouns to the rest of the world (and tho one migth be eager to atribute that to transphobia the translators actually were in a hard spot, because Japnanese pronouns are more flexible than english pronouns) there is prob some more details, but let's move.

The QNAs in the other hand are more complicated,

One time the writer was questioned why Felix (at the time) behave in a feminine way and so he responded that it had to do with a promise she made with Crusch when they where kids that Felix would hold Crush femininity when she wouldn't be using it.

That made fans at this point belive that Felix was asked to do that and rolled along because of his love for Crusch.

When the two words are used together, the phrase is representative of the greater societal issue of hate and violence often perpetrated against the transgender community. Men who have issues with fragile masculinity will often feel that they have been deceived by trans women.

Trap

About

"Trap" is an internet slang term used to refer to a fictional character whose outward appearance is inconsistent with one's perceived gender.

I don't recall seeing anywhere where felix was explicitly stated to be trans though, just as being biologically male, so likely there isn't a canon gender identity for him (i suppose when the anime adapts that part of the source material it might change, also idk if japan actually has the same concept of gender and sex being often considered seperate, and recent developments might have changed or complicated things).

Could almost be mistaken for a woman until you are in the bedroom with one. In order to create a safer world for the trans community, work needs to be done from the ground up. To men controlled by toxic societal norms, trans women are just deceitful crossdressers. In extreme cases, these thoughts eventually escalate to violence or murder.

Those who use it typically have a poor understanding of its far-reaching implications, or even what it means. It justifies violence that stems from insecurity. However, the word has drawn criticism and stigma for its derogatory connotation against the transgender community.

Origin

The term "trap," not to be confused with "trap house" (a place where illegal drugs are bought, sold and used) or trap music in hip hop culture, stems from a reaction image based on a scene from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, wherein Admiral Ackbar is quoted as saying "IT'S A TRAP" upon discovering an ambush by an enemy fleet.

As the reaction image continued to gain traction across anime hub sites like Something Awful and 4chan over the next decade, the word "trap" itself gained recognition as a slang label for a transgender person in general.

Spread

Beginning in 2004, the Admiral Ackbar quote spawned hundreds of parody sites featuring the soundbite of Admiral Ackbar’s quote on YTMND, with the most notable instance uploaded by user MultiKoopa on June 2nd, 2005, which has garnered more than 313,000 views (as of April 2016).

Around the same time, shortly after the launch of the imageboard community 4chan, the phrase became closely associated with traps, a slang term for a photograph of a model or illustration of an anime character wherein the gender of the subject seems to be ambiguous or androgynous in appearance.

4chan users, in addition to creating the internet theme day "Trap Thursday," described androgynous anime characters as "traps," a long tradition within anime and manga.

That however was proved wrong when that history was wrote, because Felix was the one that asked for it, not otherwise.

Also, when asked if Ferris could ever go back to be Felix the Author said no.
