- The people of Greensboro, NC love sports, so much that one of the city’s nicknames is “Tournament Town.” Greensboro is home to many sports teams, including the NBA G League Greensboro Swarm, the Greensboro Grasshoppers that play in the South Atlantic Baseball League, and the Carolina Dynamo who play in the Premier Development Soccer League.

Greensboro’s LGBTQ Community
Greensboro has a growing, thriving, and welcoming community that is well-supported by the city in a variety of ways.
For community resources and local connections, drop by Guilford Green Foundation & LGBTQ Center. Greensboro happens to be home to Replacements, Ltd., a giant retailer founded by the famous LGBT supporter, Bob Page.
The settlers bought the land from the Native Americans for just $98 and called the town Greensborough, a name that it would have until 1895. The median price of homes recently sold in Downtown Greensboro is around $103,000.
Each year brings a fairly average amount of rain, with around 45 inches per year and a slight amount of snow - typically 5 inches per year or less. That being said, there are a couple of neighborhoods that are known for having a little extra LGBTQ-friendly flair.

Where to Live in Greensboro
Greensboro doesn’t have one particular “gayborhood” like some larger cities do, but this doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of neighborhoods that are welcoming and wonderful places to live.
Westerwood Tavern is a neighborhood dive with strong karaoke and trivia nights. You can mix classic civil rights history with college-town energy, then end your night in spaces where locals actually talk to visitors. The GGF raises funds for programs and philanthropy that addresses the challenges that the queer community faces.
PFLAG is the largest grassroots organization of its kind in the country and plays a critical role in providing advocacy, networking opportunities, connections and resources to the LGBTQ community. This month we’re heading to the Tar Heel State to check out the scene in Greensboro.
Since the A&T Four Sit-Ins in 1960, which famously launched a series of protests that led to the desegregation of dining facilities across the South spurring on the Civil Rights Movement, Greensboro has been known for its dedication to inclusion.
It is part of what is known of the Piedmont Triad region of the state, which encompasses Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem, as well as many smaller cities and towns. It is a city full of beautiful green spaces, welcoming people, and plenty to see and do. April to early June gives you pleasant weather before peak summer heat, plus a decent shot at Pride-related events.
By the late 1890s, everyone knew the city as Greensboro, and with the founding of the railroad in the area, the area also became known as “Gate City” for its unique role as a place where many products could be shipped out to other areas.
