“The Long Walk”
“The Long Walk” earned its place among the year’s most essential LGBTQ releases not through political spectacle, but by depicting queer intimacy with brilliance under pressure. Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of Stephen King’s brutal novel approaches its dystopian death march with a kaleidoscopic sensitivity that’s attuned to the private fears, bonds, and longings of the young men facing extermination.
Over the summer, Pride marketing declined across major movie brands, and by the fall, streaming services had announced several cancellations of well-loved queer TV shows. When not binge-watching the latest series on Netflix, she is busy singing along to her favorite artists/showtunes, consuming too many coffees a day and dreaming about penning her next big story.

What emerges from the recreation, ably portrayed by Rebecca Hall and Ben Whishaw, is an ambling, loose conversation that stretches into the night, as they gossip, talk trash about acquaintances, and ruminate on the banality of day-to-day life. It’s both intentionally a little boring and completely engrossing — a snapshot of a time in queer history often overlooked and forgotten.
If you care about trans cinema, personal revolution, or art that pushes the film form and queer feeling forward, Weard continues to produce essential, all-consuming viewing. Frank and forthcoming about a common disconnect in the LGBTQ dating pool, “Sauna” is rich in atmosphere but more importantly the chemistry of the leads.
As Steven grows up, so does the show — and both kids and adults will enjoy growing along with him.

“Blue Moon”
Ethan Hawke isn’t the first choice you would think of to play an embittered, messy bisexual — one who is several inches shorter than his lanky build, nonetheless — but somehow the actor nails it in “Blue Moon,” a biopic of acclaimed lyricist Lorenzo Hart from Hawke’s frequent collaborator Richard Linklater.
In the book Ordinary Girl in a Tiara, Caro Cartwright’s convinced by her best friend, Princess Lotty, to masquerade as Prince Philippe of Montluce’s girlfriend — a scenario which, of course, turns into actual romance. —WC
“The Hunting Wives”
Created by Rebecca Cutter, “The Hunting Wives” was engineered to provoke in every political direction.
That attention crystallizes in Peter McVries (David Jonsson), a gay character delivered with exceptional warmth and clarity. In 2025, identity is treated as a declaration and silence is regarded as assumed erasure. There’s quite a bit of LGBTQ+ representation in the game, but we’ve yet to see that translate fully to the series.

The final movie of the CW’s six adaptations of Harlequin romance novels takes some important gay liberties with the source material.Over eight 11-minute episodes, the Adult Swim show crams buckets of plot and more plot twists than can be counted on both hands into the wild tale of a Spanish guinea pig entrepreneur and her rivalry with a butcher shop mogul for control over the rodent’s fate in Ecuador.
Bound together by desire, secrecy, and confused social necessity, the women of this dishy novel persist beyond author May Cobb’s pages into the Netflix adaptation by explosively translating layered radicalization.
