Her doctor warned her to call her if she appeared to be losing the baby while it still had a heartbeat because there was another doctor at the hospital who might refuse to help her if the baby had a heartbeat.
Valimont came down from the stage and hugged the woman before answering.
“That story is both horrible and too normal these days,” Valimont said.
His Primary challenger, Aaron Dimmock, had been vetted by McCarthy, who became the first-ever House Speaker removed from office following a motion to vacate by Gaetz. “Since the six-week abortion ban went into effect, we've had lots of women come to us and say they're scared to get pregnant.”
Valimont said doctors and the state should be held accountable for the woman's situation, but she said she didn’t expect much movement on the issue in the next few years.
“What I can tell you is, under this administration, we may not see an opportunity to fix it,” Valimont said.
I thank Gay Valimont for her leadership and for once again stepping up to run in a difficult district.

What are we voting for today in Florida?
The key races for Florida voters are U.S.
House District 1 and 6. House District 1 special election results – Patronis vs. Any voters waiting in line at 7 p.m. At the same point in time, Valimont raised nearly $696,000 but holds onto just under $133,000 in cash on hand.
But Valimont, despite facing an incumbent in arguably Florida’s reddest district, has raised more than all but two nonincumbent Democrats running for Congress in Florida.
“My opponent is running as an anti-gun activist.”
The incumbent also has plenty of firepower behind his bid.
“It falls solely at his feet, and the reason he was given this opportunity to run here is because it's such a red district, and nobody would question. He’s confident voters will still see him as representative of the region’s values.
“I’m running to secure the border, cut federal spending and return America to economic success,” Gaetz told Florida Politics.

Following tonight’s election results in Florida’s 1st Congressional District, where Democratic Gay Valimont had the best performance from a Democrat in Florida’s 1st Congressional District this century, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“Congratulations to Gay Valimont on running a strong campaign that will make a difference for Florida’s 1st Congressional District for years to come.
“As we navigate the complexities of our political landscape in the next two months, let us remember that our collective strength lies in our unity.”
But Gaetz, who first won election to Congress in 2016, said the voters of Florida’s 1st Congressional District always supported him before. will have the opportunity to cast a ballot.
And it's fine because we're ready.”
Valimont is the Democratic Party nominee for Florida's 1st Congressional District seat and is facing Republican Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis in a special election on April 1 to fill the seat vacated by Matt Gaetz.
A Democrat has not won an election to the seat since 1992, but Valimont told supporters Friday she believes she can win.
Gay is a staunch advocate for a woman’s right to choose, and is committed to enhancing veterans’ affairs, ensuring our military personnel receive the support and care they deserve.”
Like many Democrats, Valimont could benefit from abortion and marijuana measures, both of which Gaetz opposes, appearing on the ballot in November.
But ultimately, the fundamentals of the race still tilt in Gaetz’s favor.
There are also two state House and one Senate seat up for grabs.
In District 1, Republican Jimmy Patronis is battling Democrat Gay Valimont to replace Matt Gaetz.
In District 6, Democrat Josh Weil and Republican Randy Fine are vying to replace Mike Waltz, who resigned to be National Security Advisor in the Trump administration.

“It's his thing, and he says that veterans support him. Democrats have overperformed in 15 out of 16 special elections this year. Retaining a district Trump won by nearly 40 points in 2024 put local and national Republicans in a tailspin because of Trump’s deeply unpopular attacks on working families.
In the weeks and months ahead, Democrats will continue to organize and uplift the organic anger of voters across this country as we stand up to Republican attacks and prepare for critical electoral fights ahead.
“What's happening right now is hurting real people,” Valimont said.
Valimont also said what the Trump administration was doing by appointing Elon Musk to create and run the Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE was wrong.
“Can you imagine if we had George Soros to come in and do the same thing under a Biden administration?” Valimont said.
Valimont said she will go to Congress and tell both Democrats and Republicans that the public does not like what’s been done in the first two months of the Trump administration.
“We have to do something big, and we have to do it now,” Valimont said.
Valimont didn’t mention her Republican opponent much during the nearly 90-minute event, but when she did, she hit him for his role as Florida’s chief financial officer who oversees the state’s insurance industry.
“Under his purview is the entire insurance crisis that has happened in Florida,” Valimont said.
More than 65% of voters in CD 1 backed Trump for President in 2020, the highest percentage of any district in the state of Florida. Make no mistake: The momentum is on our side. Valimont said she doesn’t support taking anyone's guns but believes there should be background checks required even for person-to-person transactions.
Valimont was also asked about her position on women’s reproductive rights.
What we have to do, everybody, is question what Jimmy Patronis has done to us, and why he thinks he can come in here, purchase this seat, and go to Washington and use us as a stepping stone.”
Patronis has already hit back with an advertisement against Valimont saying she is running “dishonest, dirty campaign” against him.
