This multi-level cafe bar in West Hollywood is an L.A. gay institution and definitely makes for one of the best nights out in town, with eye candy aplenty and all those Californian Muscle Mary's seeing and being seen.

The Abbey won the MTV Logo Best Gay Bar In The World Award twice.

But WeHo wasn’t always the gay mecca it is now.

    The gays go west

The history of how West Hollywood became a queer (and non-queer at this point) destination dates back to the Prohibition era. It's in a great location. The fair hosts its own live entertainment and performances on a community stage. In fact, a new study finds that it takes longer to own a home in California compared to other states, even New York.

Here’s The History Behind That (And Other Headlines)
